Matthew 16:24 ... Jesus said, "If any will come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross, and follow Me."
Mark 8:34 ... "Whosoever will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."
Jesus said for us to pick up our cross and follow Him. He was not saying for us to pick up His cross ... we are not able to do that. So what is the "cross" that He's talking about?
It isn't your spirit man because our spirit is just like Jesus's. It is the soul that we live in ... it can be swayed in its decisions. It can decide to go with our spirit influences OR the body influences. It has to make the decision.
You make the decision to go to church on Wednesday night. Your will says, "I'm going to church." Do you get an argument? Sometimes you will.
Your body will say, "I'm not going tonight. I'm tired and I'm staying home."
You say, "No, body I'm going ... so you have to go. You don't have a choice."
Your body says, "But I'm tired. I don't want to go tonight."
"Body, we are going! Get those legs moving! We are going to church."
And your body has to obey ... it has just lost that argument. This is taking up your cross.
