The devil, Satan, would like ... if he can ... to separate us from the presence of God.  He feels like he's got an inroad to you.  He feels like he owns part of you.  God says, "NO, NO, NO!  No ownership for him."

The story of Job has some principles concerning this.  The devil went to God and said (I'm paraphrasing this), "God, You know that old Job is a righteous man, but I can make him turn against You."

God answered, "OK, you can do anything you want to him, but you cannot kill him."

So this is what the devil did ... he did everything he could do.  But Job was so righteous before God and loved Him so much that he would not say anything contrary about Him.  His wife tried to get him to curse God and die.  His friends came along and told him that he must have sinned really bad to have everything that was happening to him.

We do not need "friends" like Job's friends.  We, as born-again, spirit-filled believers, have no legal right to walk in that kind of a situation.  None!  But there are a lot of Christians who are in situations like this ... because of ignorance.

Hosea 4:6a says that God's people are destroyed because of a lack of knowledge.  What knowledge?  God's revelation Truth of His Word.
