Ephesians 5:2 says that we are to walk in love toward others. Verse 1 says that in order to be a follower of God, we have to walk in love. To me this means that if we do not walk in love, we are not truly a follower of God.
Ephesians 5:1,2 NLT ... Imitate God in everything you do because you are His dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ, who loves us and offered Himself as a Sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
Matthew 22:37-39 NLT ... Jesus replied, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. The second (commandment) is equally important. Love your neighbor as yourself."
Jesus tells us here that Love is a commandment. It's the first and great commandment. The commandment is to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul, and to love our neighbor as ourself.
Since this is a commandment, we have no choice as to whether we obey it or not. We have to do what Jesus said for us to do to the best of our ability.
1 John 1,2,3a NLT ... Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves His children too. We know we love God's children if we love God and obey His commandments. Loving God means keeping His commandments.
We can tell if we are really God's children when we love Him and keep His commandments.
