Ephesians 5:1 tells us to be imitators of God ... to copy and follow His example.
We may have to do some house cleaning to get rid of some things around the house ... in our lives ... that should not be there. If there's something that hinders you from your pursuit of being like Jesus ... imitating Jesus and mimicking Him ... it needs to be gone!
1 John 5:21 AMP. says to keep yourselves from idols ... false gods". From anything and everything that would occupy the place in your heart that is due God ... from any sort of substitute for Him that would take first place in your life.
We, you and I, have a lot of things in our house that perhaps we don't see as idols. But someone else may come in and see that thing as an idol. We have stuff around that we don't think much about, or pay attention to, that might seem so innocent and not mean anything to us. A decoration on display perhaps that someone else might observe as an idol in our life.
Romans 14:16 AMP. says, "Do not let what seems good to you be considered an evil thing by someone else. Do not give occasion for others to criticize that which is justifiable for you."
Sometimes things have a sentimental meaning to us, that we don't feel is wrong. We may not even care about it, or pay any attention to its presence there, but it has the potential to hinder or stop you from going after what God wants you to do. He says, "Get that stuff out of your life!"
