A couple of reasons that we don't get our prayers answered are:
1. We pray for things that we know we aren't going to get, things that we want, mainly from lust or selfishness, so we shouldn't waste our time praying for them.
2. We don't always pray God's Word. A lot of times our prayers are just our own words going up in the air and bouncing off the ceiling. God isn't going to respond to them ... He only responds to His words being spoken out of our mouths in faith.
Jesus has provided for every need we may have and the weapons we need for successful prayer. He said for us to take these weapons and use them ... His Name, Jesus, which is above every name, His armor, as noted in Ephesians 6, verses 10 and following, His Blood, His authority .... to name a few.
So go into God's Word and learn to use it in prayer.
