Jesus the Christ ... the Anointed One and His Anointing ... without spot or blemish, would be given as a sacrifice once and for all to deliver man out of Satan's grasp and the bondage of sin.
This established the New Covenant and was the Day of Liberation, a Day of Freedom for all mankind! Hallelujah! The Old Covenant had fulfilled its purpose, revealing to man the awfulness of his sin, his bondage and slavery to sin, and his need for redemption.
The blood of bulls and goats had been proven to be insufficent to take man's sins away. Jesus and His disciples were getting prepared to celebrate the Passover.
Jesus told them in Luke 22:15: "I earnestly desire to eat this Passover with you before I suffer." He had eaten Passover meals with them prior to this time.
However, this Passover feast was the Passover of all Passovers. It wasn't just going to be their last Passover meal together ... it was going to bring the fulfillment of Passover.
On the following day Jesus was to be the Sacrificial Offering ... the Lamb of God without spot or blemish ... to deliver the people out of their bondage of sin. The disciples didn't see this at that time, but we have the advantage of looking back and seeing all the prophecies that were given and how they've been fulfilled. And we can see how the people around Him responded as they did.
I was watching a video about Jesus. When a person sees a dramatization of the Word in this manner, it gives a whole different perspective. I got to thinking ... if I was there in that day, hearing what they were hearing ... would I respond in the same way? I would not have known what I know now ... I'd be just as blank in all of that information as they were.
So ... would I react differently than they did? Here, all of this is being played out right before their very eyes. Something for all of us to think about ..... .
