At the time that Jesus walked here on the Earth, God's Kingdom was still out in the future.  His disciples were looking for and expecting His Kingdom to physically come during their lifetime.  They were looking for a physical kingdom to free them from Roman rule.  Luke 19:11 tells us that they thought the Kingdom of God should immediately appear.

Luke 19:11b NKJV ... they thought the Kingdom of God would appear immediately.

Luke 19:11 NLT ... The crowd was listening to everything Jesus said.  He told them a story to correct the impression that the Kingdom of God would begin right away.

John 18:36 NLT ... Jesus said, "My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom.  If it were, My followers would fight to keep Me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders.  But My Kingdom is not of this world."

Luke 17:20,21 NLT ... The Pharisees asked Jesus, "When will the Kingdom of God come?"  Jesus replied, "The Kingdom of God can't be detected by visible signs or by your speculations.  You won't be able to say ... 'Here it is!' or 'It's over there!'  For the Kingdom of God is already among you, is in you, in your grasp."

We are living in the day when His Kingdom has already come.  It's within us ... the born-again ones.
