"Knowing" or "knowledge" is not obtained by mere intellectual activity.  We can look at the word know in our soulish realm ... in the academic world ... the world  in which we live.  Or we can look at it from the spiritual side. If we're going to be intimate with Jesus, we need to look at it in both soulish and spiritual realms.   

Look at what Jesus did when He walked on the Earth, what He did in His ministry.  He set people free from the bondage of the devil (which is all in the soulish realm).  This is what we are supposed to be doing.  

James 2:18 says:  A man may say: "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without your works and I will show you my faith by my works." 

Faith without works is dead ... inoperative.  You may ask:  "What are those works?"  They are the same things that Jesus did and they're listed in Mark 16:15-18.
